Why the existing courses fail expats
Most English courses are Dutch courses run through a translator. Expats report the same problems again and again:
Translations you can't follow
Word-for-word translations of Dutch text, with Dutch strings left in. You end up decoding the course before you can learn from it.
Content that isn't on the exam
Outdated books and mock exams still teaching the old format that was retired in April 2025. You study hard for questions that never appear.
Wrong answers, wrong explanations
Correct answers marked wrong, and explanations pasted in from a different question. When the answer key can't be trusted, practice makes things worse.

Who's behind this
Car Theory for Expats is built by a small team in the Netherlands that took the CBR theory exam in English ourselves. Our founder Raghu passed it 50/50 on his first attempt, after spending €130 on courses and mock exams and fighting through clumsy translations to get there. We're building the course we wish we'd had: written in English from the start, and checked against the current exam format.
